Joseph Ziegler ’11 is Chief Operating Officer at Sommer Law Group, PC in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.
Why would you recommend La Roche to a prospective student?
La Roche is a great place for any student looking to actually have an impact. I didn't want to go to a large school where I could have fallen into the background. La Roche provides students the opportunity to make connections and develop friendships, and professors were always accessible.
What impact did La Roche have on you as a person?
La Roche really helped me develop a broader view of the world and my place in it.
How did La Roche prepare you for your position as chief operating officer at Sommer Law Group, PC?
La Roche helped me to become a more well-rounded individual, and through my experiences as an English major, laid the foundation for my career.
How did a degree from La Roche help you to advance in your career?
The English: Professional Writing program helped me to develop as a writer, and I rely on my degree every day.
Why did you choose La Roche?
I chose La Roche because it was close to home, but still provided me the opportunity to live on campus.
How did participating in La Roche activities enhance your college experience?
Playing lacrosse while at La Roche was an incredible experience. I've developed lifelong relationships, and playing in the annual alumni game has helped me to reconnect and maintain a relationship with the College and fellow players.
What are you most proud of when you look back on your La Roche experience?
There are two memories that stand out as my most proud moments. The first was presenting my Honors English paper, and the second was scoring my first college goal against Pitt in a scrimmage.
What is your favorite memory of being a La Roche student?
Meeting my wife.
What advice do you have for our students?
Be persistent. You may not get a position, and you may never know why, but you have to be persistent. The right job is out there—you just need to find it.
