Fashion Show to Celebrate La Roche College's Multicultural Community

PITTSBURGH, April 3, 2018 – Students at La Roche University will host a multicultural celebration of food, crafts and clothing at the annual GLOBE Fashion Show on Thursday, April 19.

The event will start with a preshow at 5 p.m., followed by the main event at 7 p.m. in the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center at La Roche’s campus in the North Hills. The preshow will feature a variety of activities, crafts, food and an auction of prize baskets. Items from around the world also will be sold. Sponsored by GLOBE (Globalization for La Roche University, One Beat on Earth), the event is free and open to the public.

GLOBE Co-President Olivia Gerace said, “The GLOBE Fashion Show brings the community together for an understanding of each unique culture throughout the world.”

The show will highlight fashion from a variety of regions, including the following countries: Saudi Arabia, Kenya, China, Korea, Haiti, Spain and Nepal.

GLOBE and many other La Roche students are organizing this year’s event. Students are responsible for coordinating models, performers and crew members, promoting the event, collecting outfits and donations, setting up the venue and arranging rehearsals. The organization also has partnered with businesses in the McCandless area to acquire donations.

“All the proceeds will go toward the nonprofit Global Links, a medical relief and development organization dedicated to supporting health improvement initiatives in resource-poor communities and promoting environmental stewardship in the United States health care system,” GLOBE Co-President Amanda Posa said.

GLOBE is a La Roche student organization that encourages intellectual dialogue and friendship among international and American students. The group promotes international concerns and understanding, aids international students in the University environment, and provides both cultural and social activities for the community.

The La Roche student body currently represents 33 countries, 16 states and two territories. the University has earned both national and international recognition for its global outreach. In 2017 U.S. News & World Report listed the University as a School with the Most International Students. Previously the Institute of International Education’s Open Door Report designated La Roche as one of the top 25 U.S. baccalaureate colleges, and in 2010 La Roche was one of only eight U.S. colleges to receive awards for campus internationalization efforts by NAFSA: Association of International Educators. the University also received the Senator Paul Simon Spotlight Award for international program innovation.
