La Roche College to Host International Network for Education in Emergencies Global Meet-Up

PITTSBURGH, April 17, 2018 – La Roche University is set to host a Global Meet-Up for the International Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) on April 27 from 4 to 6 p.m.

INEE is a network of individuals and organizations dedicated to providing education to every person, including those affected by disasters, conflicts and other crises. INEE trains teachers to work in refugee camps and other disaster relief areas.

Jeff Ritter, Ph.D., department chair of communications, media and technology, said, “In an emergency like the Libya crisis, all the schools in the country closed, and crucial years of schooling were missed for students. You can’t make up those years. So INEE formed to make sure that education was available in any situation, crisis, emergency or disaster.”

The meet-up will introduce people to the mission of INEE and how to get trained and involved within the organization. The event will be held in the Zappala College Center Square at La Roche’s campus in the North Hills.

“Education can’t wait. The INEE provides important services for people teaching in emergency situations, after tsunamis, earthquakes or refugee crises. INEE has organized and created portable curricula and training for people who want to work in this important field,” Dr. Ritter said.

Learning more about INEE could lead to potential job opportunities for current education majors, working students, retired teachers, and others with skills or a desire to help kids in refugee camps or in emergency situations.
