La Roche to Award #YouAreWelcomeHere Scholarship to International Students
PITTSBURGH,
Oct. 25, 2018 – Just
days ahead of International Education Month, La Roche University has announced
that it is one of 57 colleges and universities nationwide that has joined the
#YouAreWelcomeHere national scholarship program, and the only institution in
the Pittsburgh region to do so.
La
Roche will offer two annual, renewable scholarships that will cover a
minimum of 50 percent of recipients’ tuition, beginning in the fall 2019. These
scholarships are offered in partnership with the #YouAreWelcomeHere social media campaign that
encourages international students to study in the United States.
“As
we prepare to celebrate International Education Month in November, this
scholarship program exemplifies our commitment to support and welcome
international scholars from all cultures and continents to La Roche,” Assistant
Director of Global Engagement Emily Markham, said. “These scholarships support
incoming international students who are committed to furthering the
#YouAreWelcomeHere message through intercultural exchange at La Roche and
beyond.”
La
Roche will award two $15,000 renewable scholarships each year, covering more
than half of the tuition costs.
In
addition to the participating colleges and universities, the campaign has
earned support from key international education organizations, including NAFSA:
Association of International Educators and the Institute of International
Education (IIE).
“The
#YouAreWelcomeHere scholarship meets an essential challenge in the effort to
support international students, foster intercultural understanding, and develop
future leaders,” said Allan E. Goodman, president of the IIE. “As a higher
education community, it is our responsibility to support such great efforts and
welcome international students to colleges and universities across the United
States.”
