Festival of Lights Returns to La Roche University

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 1, 2022 – La Roche University will host its annual Festival of Lights holiday event on Friday, Dec. 2.

Sponsored by UPMC Health Plan, UPMC Passavant and the Passavant Hospital Foundation, Festival of Lights will run from 3 to 9 p.m. on the University’s campus in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. Additional sponsors include McCandless Crossing, Fairfield Inn & Suites and First National Bank. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

“We are thrilled to bring back the Festival of Lights in its entirety with crafts, children’s activities, fireworks and more,” said Colleen Ruefle, La Roche’s vice president for student life and dean of students. “This event is a celebration of the holiday season, and we are extremely grateful to our sponsors for making this community tradition possible once again.”

Festival of Lights will begin with a craft show in the Zappala Campus Center and conclude with a fireworks display over the La Roche campus. The evening will feature activities for children, a bounce house, a visit from Santa Claus, food trucks, live ice sculpting and carriage rides. Performing arts majors from La Roche will be dressed as sugar plum fairies for meet-and-greets with children. Children’s activities will take place in the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center.

From 6 to 8:15 p.m. the La Roche Student Government Association will accept donations for the Cans for Cocoa food drive at the entrance of the Kerr Fitness & Sports Center. Guests may donate canned goods or other nonperishable food items and receive a cup of cocoa for their generosity. Donations will be distributed to the North Hills Community Outreach and the La Roche pantry for students in need.
