ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF ENGLISH
La Roche University is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time faculty position in English Studies: Professional & Creative Writing and the College Writing Program to teach in-person classes on our campus in Pittsburgh’s North Hills. The position will start in August 2026, beginning with the fall semester.
A writing-focused and writing-intensive program, the Professional & Creative Writing major at La Roche University prepares undergraduate students for public lives working in various genres and professional settings. La Roche University graduates who have majored in Professional & Creative Writing occupy a variety of writing positions in fields such as advertising, creative writing, journalism, public relations, teaching, and business. The program is also an excellent foundation for those wishing to attend graduate or law school.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Teach four courses per semester, including but not limited to the following (on rotation): Journalism, Sports Writing, Academic Writing & Research, Technical Writing, and Creative Non-Fiction
- Serve as Faculty Advisor for the Redhawk Post student newspaper
- Participate actively as a member of the English Department, including attendance at monthly department meetings, end-of-semester assessment meetings, student-centered writing and literary events, and Humanities Division meetings
- Participate in course and programmatic development and assessment within the English Department
- Maintain currency in the field through publication and professional development
- Represent the English Department at Open Houses and other prospective student events
- Participate actively as a member of Academic Senate, including serving on Senate standing committees
Education/Qualifications:
- MFA or Ph.D. in Professional Writing, Journalism, English, or Literature
- Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in higher education
- Recent experience as a working journalist
- Proficiency with software programs and social media platforms such as: Adobe In-Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, WordPress, WIX, SquareSpace, Weebly, Webflow, Canva, Microsoft Publisher, Google Docs, X, Facebook, Instragram, LinkedIn, Generative AI and AI-powered research tools
- Experience with Canvas Learning Management System
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
