Are international students eligible to receive scholarships?

All direct-entry international undergraduate students are eligible to receive a scholarship for up to $17,000 USD per year based upon academic performance. The award is renewable for four years as long as the student remains in good academic standing. It is not applicable to ESL, Pathway or summer courses.

Is English language proficiency required for admission?

English language proficiency is required for direct admission into an undergraduate or graduate academic program. However, for those students who do not meet the minimum language proficiency requirements, we offer English language preparation courses.

Can I get a job on campus?

International students are permitted to work on campus. They can apply for a job in the dining hall, library or tutoring services at the University. Not all students will be able to get a job on campus immediately, but every semester there are a few openings.

Are original documents required?

We do require original academic transcripts when you arrive at La Roche. Unofficial scanned or electronic copies are accepted at the time of application. 

Am I required to make a deposit?

A deposit of $5,000 USD is required once a student receives their visa. Payment informaton can be found at: https://www.laroche.edu/internationalpayments/

When is tuition payment due?

Payment is due at the beginning of each semester for that semester. Students can also enroll in a payment plan. All students need to make payments on time in order to maintain their full-time status.

Can an international student attend part-time?

No. All students with an F-1 visa must be registered for at least 12 credit hours each semester. ESL students take 20 hours of classes per week, or 20 credit hours each semester. Graduate students must take a minimum of six credit hours each semester.

What is the weather like in Pittsburgh?

Pittsburgh has four seasons: spring, summer, fall and winter. The average temperature in January, the coldest month of the year, is 30 F (-1 C). In July, the hottest month of the year, the average temperature is 85 F (29 C). Make sure to bring some warm clothes, such as sweaters, boots, hats and jackets for the colder months. Winter clothes can be purchased in stores near campus.
