Director of the Center for Student Development

La Roche University invites applications for the Director of the Center for Student Development position.

This position is for a full-time Director of the Center for Student Development who will create vibrant opportunities for involvement, engagement, and leadership that provides pathways for transformational and inclusive experiences for all students. This position is responsible for the following areas: Student Activities, Student Organizations, Student Government Association, Programming, Student Leadership Development and New Student Orientation Programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create meaningful student engagement by establishing and sustaining a community of active and engaged student leaders and organizations.
  • Responsible for planning, publicizing, and implementing activities for students which will provide opportunities for learning, recreation, social and cultural growth, leadership development, and community involvement.
  • Ensure student organization leaders receive effective advising and provide training and support that develops student leaders.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of organizations and assist new organizations in obtaining official recognition and plan 2 activity fairs a year.
  • Serve as primary advisor to the Student Government Association, the La Roche Activities Forum, and other organizations as needed.
  • Oversee the publication of the online newsletter to Redhawk families.
  • Hire, supervise and mentor work-study students, interns and Graduate Assistants within the department.
  • Oversee the strategic planning for the Center for Student Development and programs and initiatives.
  • Develop data driven goals, implementation of plan initiatives, and assessment.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing an Orientation program for new La Roche University students.
  • Prepare and administer departmental budgets assigned to the various activities. Supervise assistants and students who work with individual segments of the budgets, including Student Government Association.
  • Lead the planning and execution of community-engaged campus events, including children’s activities for the annual Festival of Lights and the Easter Bunny Brunch in collaboration with campus partners.
  • Review and sign all contracts for student programming.
  • Update liability release forms for all activity participants.
  • Manage ticket sales and sign-ups for activities.
  • Produce content for brochures, calendars, online materials and other literature to highlight various events.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Direct experience in student life and activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling success both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks to meet the needs of various constituencies – students, faculty, staff, and outside agencies
  • Computer literacy (e.g. database, Excel, social media, desktop publishing.)
  • Due to the nature of activities and programming, evening and weekend work is frequently involved.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, education, counseling, social work, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully directing student leadership programs, student organizations, activities or other areas of student life.
  • Experience advancing equity-minded student engagement practices in higher education, including designing inclusive and accessible campus programming.
