Assistant Professor, Interior Architecture & Design

The Design Division at La Roche University invites applications for the position of Assistant ProfessorInterior Architecture & Design, commencing in Fall 2025.  The Assistant Professor will teach courses such as Foundations, Drafting, Studio, and Portfolio on-site at La Roche’s main campus in the North Hills of Pittsburgh.  Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to creative productivity and quality education, along with the ability to teach both technical and innovative aspects of Interior Design. 

In addition to teaching and advising students, the Assistant Professor will be part of a collaborative team and provide academic service to the Division and the University. Reporting to the Department Chair, this position is considered full-time and is eligible for corresponding benefits. The annual salary for this position starts at $49,555.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to create and facilitate a meaningful learning environment.
  • Teach courses in Interior Design including but not limited to, Foundations; lower and upper level lecture and Studio courses; 2D and 3D Sketching and Manual Drafting; AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and/or Lumion; and Presentation techniques.
  • Develop new curriculum and assist in the evaluation of current courses and programs.
  • Engage in recruitment of new students, along with retention and program completion activities for enrolled students. 
  • Fully commit to program attributes including teaching excellence, curriculum objectives and student success.
  • Participate in and contribute to evaluation of all applicable courses and programs in a systematic fashion; follow established practices and/or create additional assessment tools.
  • Advise Interior Architecture & Design students regarding individual progress, course selection and career goals.
  • Pursue professional development and participate in associated organizations.
  • Take part in accreditation activities, departmental and division events, and related committees.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related field required 
  • Must be NCIDQ certificate holder or be in process; must be completed by Fall 2027
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching undergraduate Interior Design courses at collegiate level preferred
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the Interior Design profession
  • Leadership skills working with faculty and administrators
  • Experience mentoring students and arranging internships
