Pathway Program
The Pathway Program at La Roche University allows international undergraduate students who do not have the required English proficiency to complete English as a Second Language (ESL) courses while earning academic credits toward their degrees.
There are two levels of the pathway program offered: a one-semester pathway and a two-semester pathway. Based upon scores obtained from either the IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo English tests, students will be sorted into the appropriate pathway track as illustrated by the chart below.
Track | TOEFL | IETS | Duolingo | University Credits |
Direct Admit | 79 and over | 6.5 overall band | 120 and higher | 12-18 undergraduate course credits |
1 Semester Pathway | 60-78 | 6.0 overall band | 110-115 | 12 Pathway course credits,
6 undergraduate course credits |
2 Semester Pathway | 46-59 | 5.5 overall band | 95-105 | 0 Pathway course credits, 3-6
undergraduate course credits |
ESL | 45 and lower | 5.0 and lower | 90 and lower | 0 |
If students have not or do not plan on taking any of these tests, they will then be required to test upon arrival with our ESL department. This test is free and will determine the appropriate track for the student based on their results and evaluation by the ESL department.
SAT and ACT scores are not required but could also be used to determine direct admission.
La Roche also offers English as a Second Language courses for undergraduate students who do not have the minimum language proficiency to be in the Pathway Program.
