Service Opportunities

As part of your LRU experience, you’ll join fellow Redhawks in various service projects on campus and in the broader community.

Immersive Experiences and Campus Traditions

Volunteer Initiatives

Get involved in meaningful service projects through Providence Campus Ministry throughout the academic year. These experiences include:

  • Working with at-risk children and their families
  • Visiting the elderly
  • Taking food, blankets and other essentials to the homeless
  • Contributing to neighborhood cleanup and rehabilitation
  • Organizing health fairs, blood drives and food drives

Spring Break Service Trips

Travel within a group and spend a week in March helping others, working together and learning valuable life skills. Past projects have included volunteer work at food banks, homeless shelters and community farms across various states.

Day of Service

This annual tradition unites the LRU community and dedicates a whole day to supporting various nonprofit organizations in the Pittsburgh area. Volunteer sites in the past have included:

  • North Park of Allegheny County
  • Latodami Nature Center
  • North Hills Community Outreach
  • St. Paul’s Methodist Church
  • Light of Life Mission
  • Brother’s Brother Foundation
  • Tree Pittsburgh
  • Community gardens
  • Providence Family Support Center

Conversation Partners

This rewarding opportunity is a fun way to learn about other cultures while helping others. Conversation partner volunteers help LRU international students practice their English-speaking skills.
