Doctor of Nursing Practice Program

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is designed for experienced nurses who want to develop their expertise in the rapidly evolving field of healthcare.  With a focus on evidence-based practice and leadership, our curriculum will prepare you to make a real impact on patient outcomes and healthcare policy.  As a student in our program, you’ll work closely with our experienced faculty and network with other nursing professionals.  You’ll also have the opportunity to conduct research in a variety of areas from public health to chronic disease management.

Admission Criteria:

  • MSN or comparable nursing degree from an accredited program
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Current, unrestricted nursing license from the state where clinical coursework will be completed
  • National certification in area of nursing specialty, if applicable
  • At least one year of professional experience as a registered nurse
  • Completion of an undergraduate or graduate research course within the last 10 years
  • Completion of an undergraduate or graduate statistics course within the last 10 years
  • Submission of curriculum vitae and three professional references
  • Submission of one essay:
    • Essay focusing on the applicant’s area of research interest and proposed doctoral project
  • Successful completion of interview with the DNP committee
  • Documentation of clinical experience

The program is offered full-time in 3 semesters (one full year) or part-time in 6 semesters (two full years).

REQUIREMENTS:  To successfully complete the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, the following coursework is required: 26 credits.  One thousand (1,000) practicum hours are required. Master’s level nurses will provide clinical hour documentation at the beginning of the program and submit the documentation to the program coordinator for review. All DNP students must demonstrate accomplishment of the DNP Essentials throughout the program.
