La Roche University Appoints New Vice President for University Advancement

George L. Barron-releasePITTSBURGH, Oct. 22, 2024 – La Roche University is delighted to announce the appointment of George L. Barron as the new Vice President for University Advancement. With nearly 20 years of impressive fundraising experience in both higher education and nonprofit sectors, Mr. Barron is poised to make a significant impact at La Roche. 

In his new role, Mr. Barron will oversee all fundraising initiatives and alumni relations programs. As a key member of the President’s Executive Council, he will participate in strategic planning and collaborate with leadership across the institution to support key priorities and initiatives. Additionally, he will serve as the staff liaison to the Board of Trustees Committee on University Advancement and provide strategic leadership to the University Advancement team.

“After a national search, we are excited to welcome George Barron to La Roche University’s senior leadership team,” La Roche University President Christina Clark, Ph.D., said. “His passion for fundraising and community engagement, coupled with a proven track record of building strong relationships, will be invaluable as we enhance La Roche’s visibility and support.”

Mr. Barron previously served as Director of Development at The Pennsylvania State University, where he led fundraising efforts for the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications. He successfully guided his team to the completion of a $46 million campaign as part of the Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence campaign, demonstrating strong leadership and a commitment to achieving ambitious goals. Prior to that, he was the Director of Campus Development for Penn State Greater Allegheny.

Together, we can build bridges that strengthen our institution and empower the next generation of leaders,” said Mr. Barron. “I look forward to working closely with the La Roche community and building on the solid foundation that already exists.”

Mr. Barron has held various fundraising roles at organizations including the United Way of Allegheny County, the Salvation Army and the Greater Pittsburgh Council of the Boy Scouts of America, among others. Since 2018 he has served on the board of Pressing on Pittsburgh, a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting and coaching individuals through crises. He also has been on the advisory board for the Shyne Awards Foundation since 2017, which recognizes the positive achievements of youth.

A native of Pittsburgh, Mr. Barron was raised in Bellevue and graduated from Northgate Junior-Senior High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Communications from California University of Pennsylvania, where he played defensive tackle for the Vulcans football team, contributing to their victory in the Division II PSAC West Championship in 2005. He furthered his education with a Master’s in Strategic Management and Executive Leadership from Pennsylvania State University.

Mr. Barron and his family are in the process of relocating back to Pittsburgh. He will officially assume his role as Vice President for University Advancement on Nov. 13, 2024.
