La Roche University Literary Society Presents an Evening with Brother Elliott Maloney, O.S.B.

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 27, 2026 – The La Roche University Literary Society will welcome Brother Elliott Maloney, O.S.B., for a reading from his memoir, 6928 Thomas Boulevard: A Pittsburgh Boyhood, Friday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Conference Center at Kearns Spirituality Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Co-sponsored by the Sisters of Divine Providence, the event is part of the Sisters’ 150th anniversary celebration.

In his memoir, Brother Elliott shares memories of growing up in Pittsburgh’s North Point Breeze neighborhood during the 1950s. The book recalls family life, childhood friendships, his years at Holy Rosary School and the central role that faith and parish life played in his family’s experience.

Through stories of a childhood remembered some 70 years later, Brother Elliott offers a personal look at a bygone era while inviting readers to reflect on childhood, family, faith and how children are raised today.

A monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Brother Elliott is a professor of New Testament and Biblical Languages at Saint Vincent Seminary. He has received two Catholic Press Association Awards for books on the Gospel of Mark and Saint Paul. After years of scholarly writing, he turned his attention to gathering the stories of what he describes as a simple but happy childhood and compiled them into 6928 Thomas Boulevard: A Pittsburgh Boyhood.

Brother Elliott will read selections from his memoir. Guests also can enjoy a complimentary dessert and coffee bar.

The Literary Society, initiated at La Roche in the early 1980s, serves as a forum for scholarship and discussion on literature and related issues, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and community engagement.
